CFD Investigation and Optimization on the Aerodynamic Performance of a Savonius Vertical Axis Wind Turbine and Its Installation in a Hybrid Power Supply System: A Case Study in Iran

In this study, a 3D-CFD simulation on the effect of various design and operating parameters, namely number blades, overlap ratio, spacing size, arc angle, shape factor, presence curtain, wind velocity, multi-bucket rotor, aerodynamic performance Savonius vertical axis turbine (VAWT) is conducted. order to evaluate each parameter, rotor’s power coefficient (Cp) for different tip speed ratio (TSR) values overall torque as function azimuth angle are investigated. The results show that generated solid rotor with more buckets less than two-bladed by decreasing Cp enhanced. Moreover, larger bucket has value total torque, in addition which changes configuration adding arms, thus enhancing prototype. Furthermore, it shown installing curtain upstream section improves directing airflow. observed increasing inlet velocity and, subsequently, Reynolds number, boosted. addition, noted suitable can boost power. Finally, optimum achieved using Kriging method. Based optimization results, 2-bladed VAWT an 0, size 0 (m), 170°, factor 0.5, 12 (m/s) at TSR = 0.37 introduces highest efficiency.
